The trust has derived its funding principally from donations from employers and trade unions. Initially, many of these had been clients of David Wainwright before his death. There were also, and still are, many individual supporters as well.
Occasionally, specific activities are sponsored by organizations. The work on the Equal Value Training Manual was entirely funded by the Nuffield Foundation and the publication was undertaken jointly with the Trades Union Congress. The Cement Roof was printed by Midland Bank plc and the private sector research for the report on Decentralisation and Devolution was partly funded by British Gas plc. The second annual lecture Equality at Work: an ethical investment?, given by Baroness Amos, was partly sponsored by the Co-operative Bank.
The trust currently has money invested in a fund devised especially for charities, M&G's Charibond Common Investment Bond.
The trustees have now reached a situation where they must raise further finance before any major project can be undertaken. Otherwise, reserves will be reduced to a level which might not allow the trust to continue even its basic activities.
Donations, therefore, are very welcome. These may be made by cheque, payable to the Wainwright Trust. If you pay UK income tax, the trust will be able to recover basic rate tax: please complete a Gift Aid form which you can download by clicking here Acrobat Reader required. This adds 28% to your gift without costing you anything. If you pay higher rate tax you yourself can recover this additional tax by including the donation on your self-assessment form.
You can also make make a credit or debit card donation tax-efficiently through the Charities Aid Foundation. Click on the button below. Please note that if you make a donation in this way, the Trust will not receive it until the Charities Aid Foundation has recovered the tax. As a result, the Trust will not be aware of your donation for several weeks.
